This page uses attributes explained in Troops.
In no time, all players start fighting squads. The first thing you notice is that sometimes a specific type of troops die more than others.
The intention of this page is to show you the things at play when attacking squads, so you can select the best troops and minimize deaths.
Each time you select a squad, you get a screen like this one (web version)
The screen intention is to allow the selection of your troops and, more important, to see the troops in the squad. In the example, I'm tier V and the enemy is III and II. I shouldn't be worried, sending enough troops, the squad is mine... well, no.
Sending random troops to this squad will generate unnecessary deaths. We are going to read the enemy and select the best troops, optimizing the attacks results.
In the attack screen, you can open the enemy troop's description. There are several things to take into consideration:
The fight goes by one of your types confronting one of the types of the enemy. The order is randomly generated by the game, meaning that sometimes you will attack first, while others will be the enemy. When the enemy troops attack first, a number of yours will die. The fight is type against type, in turns.
Your strongest type will attack first, when is your turn.
Enemy tier, higher tiers have more Strength and Health.
Enemy quantity, you kill troops in numbers, the more quantity, the more turns will take killing them.
Enemy bonuses against certain type of troops, the higher the bonus percentage, the more damage will deal to the specific types. If the enemy has bonuses against mounted, you may choose not to send Raiders or Monsters with this attribute. Sometimes the enemy army has types with bonuses for different type of troops. In that case, you have no choice but to send a combination of types. This combination should be made taking into account enemy tier, quantity and percentage of the bonus.
Check your monsters' attributes. Unfortunately, they also have properties like mounted, ranged, melee and flying.
In the example, the enemy has:
Tier III, 15K, 50% against ranged and 20% against siege.
Tier II, 18K, 25% against melee.
To minimize the risk, I should send monsters with the mounted property and Raiders, also mounted. The enemy has no bonuses against mounted.
Notice that the weak bonus is the 25% against melee, because of the tier and quantity comparison. When enemy combinations meet your possible combination, find the weaker bonus and use a combination based on this. Combinations are always best, except when an enemy type has a deadly set of tier, quantity and bonus.
It's important that you read the attack report. Not only the result, but the detail. Detail shows the attack turns, how turns developed for each side, and the number of deaths.
If the report shows that a type of enemy killed all of a type of yours, the most probable reason is that you sent a type where the enemy had a high bonus against.

Find the balance between squad level and army deaths. One level up in the enemy squad can mean near double VPs and XPs.
